MSIS Backs Wood Group in Unique Charity Challenge

25 May 2016

MSIS recently supported Wood Group in its efforts to raise money to help vulnerable children in Scotland as part of a unique entrepreneurial challenge, Dragons’ Glen.

Each year teams from across Scotland pitch for an investment of £500 and the chance to be mentored by some of Scotland’s most influential business leaders. The successful teams then have five months to develop their venture to generate as much money as possible for Children 1st and compete to take the title as winner of Dragons’ Glen.

The Wood Group team designed and published an interactive children’s book which was themed around safety awareness. To date, more than 800 books have been sold to schools across the north-east, raising over £17,000 for Children 1st.

As sponsors, MSIS donated £350 towards the cause and came up with a catchy tagline ‘don’t be hasty when it comes to safety, big or small, safety is for all’ which was incorporated into the story.

Aimed at children between the ages of 3-6, the story follows a Highland Coo called Hamish, and his friends as they encounter various potentially hazardous scenarios. The words and pictures in the book were carefully created so children could learn about safety in a fun and memorable way.

The characters work as a team to identify the safest course of action, while reinforcing safety messages using fun rhymes and games.

Since 2012, Dragons' Glen has seen a huge variety of fundraising ideas from teams across Scotland, which have included fold-able water bottles, seasonal cookbooks, family board games, desk calendars and a whole host of bake sales, quizzes and dress down days.

The annual challenge helps Children 1st on its mission to raise £4million every year so it can continue to support children and their families and make sure they live free from abuse and neglect.
